Grosmont Station: Photo NYMR
I got the 10.49 from Nunthorpe and travelled along the Esk Valley line with its breath taking views and arrived at Grosmont station at 11.44.
Grosmont station is a 1952 style station. Grosmont is home to the engine sheds where their locomotives are restored and maintained, it is partly funded by proceeds from the shed shop. I crossed over the road and made my way to the engine shed through the tunnel following the sign posts, the village used to be called ‘tunnel’ years ago. There were several steam engines having repairs, you have to remember they are getting on a bit. After leaving a donation I made my way back to NYMR station and watched the trains shunting in and out whilst enjoying chips and egg from their tea room.
I made my way to the Northern platform and caught the 16.17 back to Nunthorpe (it was full of school children ) arriving at 17.16.
